Why the Rich Are Getting Richer, and tthe Poor, Poorer

I thought this article was way extremely long. I think Reich made his point in the first two pages and did not need 9 pages. Its been a long know fact that the richer get richer and the poor get poorer. He talks about how despite the number of new jobs in the US, union membership has withered. The drop in membership has been accomplished by a growing number of collective bargaining agreements to freeze wages. Thats what happens the people at the top making all the real money makes sure that the workers get paid the very least. Reich gives a bunch more stats to back up his theory, but most of it is not needed. He then ends with, the salaries and benefits of americas top executives, have soared, which will coninue to happen.

Adult Crime, Adult Time

Collier feels that the Juvenile Justice System needs to be revamp. Since 1965 she says the number of 12 year old arrest for violent crimes has doubled and for 13 &14 year old has tripled. I feel that system that is in place is good but could use some adjustments. The fact that kids as young as 13 are killing and doing other violent crimes is silly. I think if kids that young are doing violent crimes like that they should arrest they parents and question them. She feels that the system is doing a poor job at treatment as well as punishment. I feel Linda Collier has been around juveniles for the most part of her career and she has seen the ins and outs of the court system. I feel she wants to make a differnece in the young peoples lives. She feels some of the kids get mistreated and she wants to help them. And the face that volent crimes are becoming more prevalent among juveniles. She wonders why there hasnt been a major overhaul of justice laws.

The Professor As An Open Book

This article made a lot of sense. For our generation i think this is more suitable for our needs. We, well I want professors to be more like us. They have facebooks and myspace pages, thats the way most people can get an idea of how other people are. These professor have to teach us and we have to learn, but now the ways of teaching are changing. Which i think is awesome. "It’s better when your professor’s human,”. That is precisely how i feel. Teachers tend to become robots in a sense. They expect the same robot mentality in return, thats not happing anymore. I thought this article shows that the younger generation is looking for a different teacher and now i think its happing.

Stripped of More than My Clothes

Daria MonDesire says when she was strip-search that they stripped more than her clothes, because she felt the reason why they did it was not good enough for her. She stated that two times in her life where she had to remove her clothes against her will, one was when she was raped and the other was when U.S. Customs Service strip-searched her. Customs Service stated that she was wearing "bulky clothes" whe she stated her bulky clothes included a blackless sundress and sandals. She was forced to remove her underwear when she felt ther was not a vaild reason for it. She then states how over 50 plus thousand of people searched at their international airport 96% of them had no drugs or contraband on them. This is odd to me, only because of the high number of no drugs found with so many people checked. Then she feels thats its a race reason why she was checked. Saying how this is not the only time she has felt this way, when several years ago she was the only person checked and was the only afro-american on the plane. She then say if the airlines want to find drugs then they should check Martha Steward, members of congress, Ivanna Trump. I think she feels discriminated and is frustrated and from reading this essay she has a reason too.

TV Isnt Violent Enough

The author of this essay I believe is tired of the how TV does not depict viloence the way he feels it should be shown. He talks about how predictable the TV shows are. How the killer always gets away and how they unrealictly kills someone like instantly with a knife. He says how several minutes of strenuous work are required to cut enough blood vessels so the victum bleeds to death. I think this guy has a point but its TV for a reason. People want to see violence but it can't be to the point where its too much gore in it. Manily to meet current TV standards, there are numerous of guidelines that must be meet in-order to have it on TV, especially highly respected cable networks.(CBS,NBC,FOX etc.)He tries to make the point the TV viloence isn't violent enough by saying that "children can't learn to enjoy cruelty from the neat, sanitized mayhem on the average series. There's isn't any!". He doesnt state anything that backs up his claim. Mike Oppenheim wants TV to be ten times worse than it is, which is crazy if you ask me. I mean come on its TV for Gods sake

What Limits Should Campus Networks Place On Pornography?

I think that campus is no place for porn. If an university allows for porn then that universities doesnt have high standards. This gives pervs the chance to look at child porn during the time their at the university teaching that doesnt make any sense. Then it says that new rules would allow those ti view porn if they get expressed permission from the university president. Viewing porn in any learning environment should be illegal anyways. The essay tries to make the point that not allowing one to view porn would be violation of the first amendment. Viewing porn puts the universities computers at risk for viruses. There shoud be only one limit on viewing porn in learning environment and thats you can not do it.

Bring Me Home A Black Girl

In this story Edwards states that blacks make their children marry other blacks. As stated in the story Edwards interviewed a black family and the kids said that they were "definitely not to marry" any white girls. This is something that i have a big isssue with. I have had a couple of white girlfriends and if my mother would have installed in my brain not to do so then maybe i would have not. But my parnets did no such thing. This is so wrong its unbelievable. But i do see the other side of this argument. Families want to keep their culture. So they do not beleive in marrying outside their race. I think you can still keep the same cultures and if not so what, a parent should never teach their child not to marry someine if a different race thats racism in my eyes. The story also states one reason why people want to stay with the same race marriges is so that the religion and shared vaules can be the same and again i think that they can still be the same.

Who's White ? Who's Hispanic? Who Cares?

I think Jecoby is trying to prove that race is not that important. I ask myself why do we put people into races, like he said in the essay, "hispanics, in other words come in all colors-just like catholics, or veterans, or the elderly". We are all one race, and thats human. Sure on the outside we may seem different but in reality we are much more alike. He stated that is was strang to think that Irish or russian immigrants were once deem "nonwhite". I'm really not sure when Jecoby presented all the stats from the Census Bureau what point he was trying to make. I think he was just stating that "hispanic" can be in any "race". Overall i think Jecoby makes some strong points stating that race is not important because we all just use it as a personal choice.

The Burka and the Binkni

I think this story makes some vailid points. Over in Afghanistan the women there do not have to worry about how they look. In public they have to be completely covered. Here in the US, a women image determinds alot about them, that why they get so many plastic surgeries. Women should be healthy, people in general should be heathly, but women should look the way the want to. If a women weighs 287 lbs she can wear anything she wants

I think that Christie's Pet Peeve is how some things in the bible we take literally and some things we do not. I believe she is asking why is that true. She does not believe there should be a bible based theocratic government in the United States. She doesnt think the bible should be taken literally because of the many commandments do not apply to our government laws. The target audience i think would be law makers who say there cant be gay marriage because in the bible it says you can'. He makes vaild points that in the bible it says that one can have slaves but we all know that thats not true in these days. I think this essay is effective simply because he states his points very clearly. To state his credibility he gives numerous of bible versus and show how they do not apply anymore. "Leviticus 19:27 prohibits men from getting their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples". Thats is completly off the wall, men can't get that hair trimmed, if we still lived by ALL and EVERY bible law things would be scary.
